Lockmiths Bumping locks

January 12th, 2012 mralarm No comments

Some homes could be at risk from criminals that can open there locks easly. There is a trend at the moment where a new form of lock picking which is being promoted online could prove to be a headache for Irish Home owners, however as all qualified locksmiths know this is a technique in itself and generally would need an experienced hand in most cases. It is an accomplished technique which is required it would be very hard to prevent somebody form practising, however they would need a lot of practice. Opening a lock in this marron is otherwise known as bumping.
However allot of newer brands of locks are now anti bumping protected to suit doors. Newer doors that are manufactured over say last hair 5 to 10 years can be vulnerable however this can be prevented by fitting bump resistance locks in the door, there are various videos available on line showing various products however experience would be necessary to perform this practice and continued pratice to prefect the art, the important thing to remember is that you do need to be experienced to do it and the only people that we would be aware that can do it would be locksmiths themselves. In any event anti bump locks would be the solution.

Most criminals are opportunists, don’t give them the opportunity to steal your possessions. By Implementing the measures set
out below by our locksmiths you can enhance the level of security of your home and
business. The information listed below has being put together by the locksmiths throughout Ireland.

Front Door: The frst line of defense is the front door. This should preferably be solid and fitted with a rim lock and a 5 lever
Mortice deadlock and a Mortice bolt. To raise the level of security,
a door chain and a door viewer.

Exterior Doors: All exterior doors should be fitted either with 5 lever Mortice deadlocks or if they are Multi point locks
with a cylinder .The cylinder should be flush with the door and you
should use an anti snap or a break secure cylinder.

Windows: Windows are the most common means of entry for burglars, fortunately window locks are available to fit all types of windows and your local locksmith will advise you on the type best suited to your windows.

Lighting: Good lighting can be protection against burglary and criminal damage. We recommend lighting that comes on at dusk
and stays on until dawn. Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL’s) fitted
with a photoelectric cell provides lighting during the hours of darkness and at a very low cost.

Garage and shed: Secure and lock your garage or shed. Burglars often look for ladders or tools to force entry to your home.

Neighbourhood: Good neighbours are a very effective means of preventing crime in your neighbourhood. Forming a
neighbourhood watch scheme in your area is a most effective means of
making people vigilant and making life harder for the criminal.

Callers: Callers to your home should not be admitted unless they are known to you, and are satisfied as to their identity, ask to see some identification. Use a door viewer and door chain. “If in doubt keep him out”.

Security for home owners and business needs to be increased in Ireland.
There is another worry that has come to light that some of the organized crime gangs who would have mainly got there ill gains from drug crimes would appear to be now engaging into other forms of organized crime, they too are feeling the pinch and feel they need to replace revenue that they would appear to be losing from the depleted drugs market. Banks intuitions would have high security  in place therefore it would also appear that the gangs are now turning their attention to more opportunistic burglaries.

Some questions you need to ask yourself and put actions into place.

Burglary Tips For An Empty Home

October 5th, 2011 mralarm No comments

Reports and recent reviews have show that much of crime takes place during the day and in empty homes of holiday makers. Many of these break-ins could be prevented with some simple security tips.

Avoid leaving the keys or spear key under a mat, flower pot, letter boxes or any little place that appears to be a good hiding place.

Avoid leaving  jewelery or valuables upstairs or down stairs within sight of a wannabe intruder.

Ask your trusted neighbours to keep an eye on the house, maybe turning on and off lights and checking the home

Inform the local Garda station that you are heading away and leave your contact details with the station

Call all deliveries and put a hold on them, milk, papers, post office

If you have an alarm make sure you have it serviced regularly so it will work correctly when away. If you don’t have a certified company fit one for you. If the alarm is monitored it will notify the key holder in the event of an activation

CCTV has now become very popular with home owners and can be a very good deterrent for an intruder. Other option include where you have your CCTV monitored also

Insure the home looks like it is being occupied, install light timers which will allow lights to come on and off during certain hours during the day or night.

7 Things to do to stop Burglaries

August 2nd, 2011 mralarm No comments

Recent reports show that burglaries are not letting up. With the recession and Employment rates on the up this tends to lead to more crime. There has being an 8% increase in the first quarter of this year.  It would appear that later in a week Thursday or Fridays tends to be a time when a burglar is most likely to strike most. Most burglars are looking for items that they can sell easily. Jewelery would be the most common, games and consoles would be also high on a list to steel. Cash would be  a jack pot for any burglar.

Our locksmiths throughout Ireland have come up with a list of things you should do. If you see or suspect something call your local Gardi.

Below are seven things to do to help prevent a break-in:

1/ Secure all door’s and windows, an open window will only make it easy to gain entry.

2/ Keep all Cash ans Jewelery in a secure safe place.

3/ Don’t leave keys under a mat at the front or rear doors. Avoid leaving keys inside that are visible.

4/ If you have a burglar alarm use it when in the house or not. ( Its surprising the amount of people don’t use their alarm)

5/ Lock away games and consoles as to not leaving them visible to prying eyes

6/ Don’t leave tools or ladders in the rear of a property.

7/ When going away leave a light on or have some pick up the post and draw the curtains on a daily basis.

Customer feed back

April 11th, 2011 mralarm 1 comment

Over the years our locksmiths have received allot of positive  feed back from customers, mostly by a phone call that day or the next day. On other occasions the customers have decided to send it by the old traditional way, by mail. As seen below the  customer took time out of there busy life’s to put pen to paper. It was much appreciated and we would always past it on to the locksmith involved. While a  locksmiths job can be difficult sometimes it is great to put a smile on there face knowing that they did a great job in making another customer happy. After all without our customer’s we would not have a business.109876654321

Door closers Under Floor or Over Head

February 18th, 2011 mralarm 1 comment

There are various different forms of door closers designed for usage on all types of doors for light use, for medium use or for heavy duty use. An overhead door closer would probably be fitted to an aluminium door and a under floor door closer would be fitted to again an aluminium door.

There is a kit / bracket available for fitting the under floor or over head closer to a wooden door.

Al door closers have a shelf life depending on the amount of usage that they get.  When fitting a door closer you consider the thickness and size of the intended door before choosing a light duty use closer or a medium use door closer or a heavy duty door closer.

Consider if the door will have little traffic through it for a light duty door closer or high traffic through it then a heavy duty closer should be fitted.

All door closers will come with fitting instructions should you decided to fit it yourself and the instructions will guide you through fitting the closer on a inward opening door, out ward opening door, be it left hand side or right hand side.

A door closer will operate on a door for a period of time and when this time has expired a door closer will either leak oil or stop closing the door correctly. You tend to notice the door slamming closed or just not closing at all. An attempt can be made by adjusting the adjustment screws on the closer however more times than not this will not work and the closer needs replacing.

On most commercial doors, aluminium tends to be fitted with an overhead or under floor closer. When the usage period has expired you will find that the door will swing out or in a little bit more than it should. Or on a windy day the door will blow the door open quit easily.

Oil leaking from the closer is also an indication that the closer needs replacing. Some movement in the door, maybe it falling forward or movement on the bottom hinge indicates the shoe or the arm is worn and needs replacing.

In order to complete the fitting of an over head closer or an under floor door closer there is a need to take the door down. This would generally take two men.

Dyno locks locksmiths offer 24 hour locksmith services in Dublin and Ireland including fitting and replacing all types of door closers, under floor door closers and over head door closers to all types of doors.Under floor closer and Over head closerA worn Dorma over head pivotBadly worn shoe
